Before planning our holiday, I had never heard of Lombok. It was only when mentioned by a friend in passing - 'like Bali but 20 years ago', that Tom and I decided to investigate Bali's lesser known neighbour. The flight from Bali to Lombok is extremely quick. 25 minutes will get you there and there is also the option of taking a 2 hour speedboat ride across the Lombok Strait as well. From driving across the island, we noticed that Lombok was definitely much more greener and less developed than Bali. Trees are everywhere and the mountains majestically scale the coast near Senggigi.
Tom & I took a plane and booked our stay with Puri Mas Boutique Resort & Spa, right next to the town of Senggigi which is Lombok's main tourist town and super close to Gili Islands. Aside from its proximity to the Gilis, we chose this resort because it was right next to the coast and had rooms and villas available for every budget. Initially, our plans for Lombok involved visiting waterfalls and hiking up Mount Rinjani, a volcano in the middle of the island, as well as check out the eastern side of the island but we got caught out by the weather so quickly changed our plans and stayed in the resort. Luckily the weather did clear up eventually so that we were able to spend a fair few days under the sun and also at the Gili Islands, (coming up next post!).
Here are a few images from our time in Lombok. If you're ever heading to Bali and want to extend your trip a little longer, we would definitely recommend hopping across the water to visit Lombok and the Gili Islands. It's so convenient to go there and experience Lombok before it becomes more developed and packed with tourists (It's already on its way!!).
Can you see what I see? On a clear day, you can see the island of Bali and what I am guessing is Mt Agung from across the ocean. It is the most magical sight, to witness Bali in its entirety across one horizon with the infinity pool in the foreground, and the endless expanse of water behind it.

STAY: At Puri Mas we stayed in a jacuzzi villa. We initially and booked the 'cozy room' however after checking in, realised it was much too small for us and upgraded on the spur of the moment to the next available room size up. No regrets though! The jacuzzi villa here was absolutely super and was like a small home away from home (not that my home at home is anything like a villa haha), where we had our very own front porch, pool loungers, jacuzzi and frangipani tree which rained petals every morning!I just loved exploring the grounds over here. The villas, which come in a variety of sizes and styles are scattered throughout the resort grounds. The best thing about them is that they all look so different which made walking around the grounds so much fun.

We spent a fair amount of time around this pool where I accidentally twinned with Katy Perry..

Thank you Lombok, for sharing your beauty with us. Now, back to the law books for me for some serious summer study before coming back real soon with my Gili Islands diary!Photos: Tom Debono & I
