I'm not a fan of theme parks - at all - but there was something about this one that just captured my heart. Perhaps it was the lack of expectations or the fact that I didn't really intend to spend much time there but we ended up going to Tivoli Gardens twice. Thanks to our Copenhagen Cards we kind of had unlimited free tickets to Tivoli. If you haven't heard of Tivoli, it's one of the oldest amusement parks in the world and was built long before places like Disneyland even existed. In fact, it was Tivoli that inspired and impressed Walt Disney so much that he decided to build his own Tivoli-inspired theme park, Disneyland. The thing I love most about Tivoli is that whilst it is an amusement park, it's not just about the rides (I am terribly scared of everything) as it is also a garden and recreational area which in summer, springs to life with millions of flowers, live entertainment, exhibitions and exotic architecture. The fact that it's right in the heart of the city (next to Strøget) gives you even less of an excuse not to visit. In my opinion, the best time to visit Tivoli would be in the late afternoon right before it gets dark so you can see and enjoy Tivoli both in daylight as well as in the evening when the lights come on and the park transcends into an even more magically romantic place to be. The lights that glow on the buildings and the hanging lanterns turns the grounds into something that looks as if it's straight out of a movie..Photography: Rowena Cao & I
