I first heard of Koh Yao Yai whilst researching islands near Phuket. I was looking for somewhere undiscovered and different to visit during our time in Phuket. Phi Phi and James Bond were of course going to be on the list but it was something unique that I was craving for more. When I found Koh Yao Yai, I knew this was what I was looking for. Quiet and secluded with just a handful of resorts on the island. It reminded me of what Lombok is to Bali. Something just as beautiful, less than 30 minutes away but rarely known about by others. It was a place to escape and nothing like bustling Phuket. I was raving about it before I had even visited. We chose to stay at GLOW Elixir, spoiling ourselves with a beachfront villa as we were lucky to have booked during a massive sale. Every evening the sky glowed with magical sunsets like these, a taste of what it might be like if our home was by the coast..Photography: Tom Debono
