We spent our last two days of our time in Flores lazying around at Plataran Komodo Beach Resort. Tucked just 20 minutes from the main street in Labuan Bajo, Plataran Komodo is a hidden oasis of luxury inspired by traditional Javanese Style. It was the perfect place to relax with a wide array of activities to choose from and plenty of sun loungers if all you feel like doing is lying under the sun (umbrella!). If you're looking for a special romantic getaway, Plataran Komodo is the perfect choice for this with its unique Plataran Encounters offering! Read on below to find out more about this wonderful resort.

Our Villa

During our time at Plataran Komodo, we stayed in the Executive Ocean Front Villa, 'Manta'. The villa itself was a beautiful little oasis for two with its own little arched entry, a spacious little garden with sun loungers and balcony facing the ocean.

Inside, there was a large and comfy bed equipped with mosquito nets, study, wardrobe, full length mirror, TV and more. Both the room and bathroom were super spacious, and totally relaxing after our three days worth of island-hopping!

The resort grounds are well equipped with a newly built gym with glass windows and panoramic view of the beach, a swimming pool, private beach (yay, a big plus!) and plenty of sun-loungers, nooks and hammocks to relax at.

Restaurants

At Plataran Komodo, there are two restaurants - Atlantis on the Rock + Xanadu Restaurant. There's also one other restaurant - Atlantis Beach Club which is off-site that is also owned by the resort, though we didn't get the chance to visit!

Atlantis on the Rock

Atlantis on the Rock is a fabulous ocean front restaurant with an incredible view. We dined here twice, once for dinner and again for lunch. They have the same menu for lunch and dinner and the menu offers a huge range of Indonesian, local and western cuisines. The food here was delicious and very reasonably priced as well! We loved trying their grilled seafood, nasi goreng and veggies.

Look at that view from Atlantis on the Rock!

Just around the corner of Atlantis on the Rock is direct beach access, as well as a beautiful pier as well. We loved exploring every time we passed by Atlantis on the Rock, it was such a beautiful restaurant.

Xanadu Restaurant

Xanadu Restaurant is situated right next to the hotel lobby, in front of the resort's beach and is where breakfast is served every morning, as well as afternoon tea. It's a really casual, laid back kind of place and you can choose to dine in the restaurant (which is open-air) or to sit by the beach on one of their tables there. We had delicious brekky here on one of the mornings and also got to try their lunch and dinner (which we did as the sunset beach dinner experience - read more below) as well.

Sunrise Breakfast on the Hill

One thing I love about Plataran Komodo is its Plataran Encounters - unique experiences you can book through the resort such as snorkelling tours, cooking classes, market visits and more. We got to try two of them - one was the sunrise picnic breakfast on the hill and the other the sunset dinner (below). The sunrise picnic breakfast was one of the most magical experiences we had in Flores! We woke up at 4:30am to climb a hill nearby the resort to find ourselves at this beautiful breakfast picnic spread overlooking the sea and trees. It was such an incredible way to start the day, enjoying sandwiches, pastries and fresh tropical fruit as the skies turned from darkness to pink to gold then blue.

It was also such a unique place to stay - it's not often you go to a resort surrounded by rolling hills like these. I totally recommend booking this experience.

Sunset Beach Dinner

Another special experience we tried was the beautiful sunset beach dinner set up under the fairy lights at Xanadu Restaurant. Again, it was just such a picturesque place to dine - right next to the sound of the ocean ways, the setting sun and the warm ocean breeze. The perfect little surprise to book for a loved one.

This dinner is arranged by Xanadu restaurant so we selected our dishes from the Xanadu restaurant menu. We had some lovely grilled lobster, steak and nasi goreng, as well as special Indonesian dishes we tried for the first time - bamboo rice & deep fried salted egg tofu!

Padma Spa

During our time at Plataran Komodo, we also managed to squeeze in an hour's worth of relaxation at the resort's newly renovated Padma Spa. I just love the traditional Javanese style of the resort, with these details also incorporated into the textiles and interiors of Padma Spa. Tom had a lovely relaxing massage and I had a beautiful facial here.

Resort Activities: Snorkelling, paddle-boarding & kayaking

PlataranKayak-cropped-1.jpg

Being by the beach makes Plataran Komodo the perfect place for water sports and the resort offers plenty of free equipment to use to fulfil all your water sport dreams! We borrowed the resort's snorkelling, paddle boarding and kayaking equipment to do all three during our time there. It was the first time I swam out in the open sea by myself (haha) and the water here is actually surprisingly super calm.

I had so much fun exploring the water - right next to their pier, there are actually 100+ Buddha statues under the water placed like a sculpture park (but also to encourage new coral growth). I had so much fun discovering this one early morning and being out in the ocean at Plataran Komodo with barely another soul nearby was one of the best things I did whilst here!
