Our Surprise Proposal Photoshoot in Ubud, Bali

“Wherever I go, whatever I do, the map on my heart leads to you..”

I wanted to share today some personal memories of this special morning in Ubud, Bali. Tom and I were out chasing the sunrise at Tegellalang Rice Terraces. We had been here before many years ago but it was our first time visiting Tegellalang early in the morning. I had seen images of the gorgeous golden light pour in in the mornings and thought it would be a nice place to shoot.

We booked a SweetEscape photographer, Ubud local, Krisna, who had met us at the rice terraces in the early hours of the morning for a couple’s holiday photo shoot. He later told us that despite often suggesting visitors to come to the rice terraces in the morning if they wanted the beautiful light, he’s always had clients who’d rather meet at 11am, and that we were his first to agree to coming so early which he was surprised about!

Our shoot started meandering our way through the dirt paths of Tegellalang, as we went searching for the light. We ended up finding a spot I really liked with gorgeous sunshine. Tom set up his video camera to film some clips for a travel video he was making of our trip. And so we twirled in the rice terraces before he pulled out a little box from his pocket and asked me to marry him.

Of course this was something we’d already thought about and written into our stars, but marking it with a special surprise moment like this to cherish for years to come was so lovely. And with the gentle morning breeze surrounded by nature, I was glad to have this intimate moment to ourselves with barely a soul in sight, in a place so beautiful as Tegellalang.
