Udai Kothi - Udaipur, India
Udiapur is filled with pretty boutique hotels with stunning gorgeous rooftop restaurants, so when it came to choosing somewhere to stay in Udaipur, we were quite spoilt for choice. After a bit of researching, we booked our stay at Udai Kothi, a recently renovated boutique heritage hotel. The hotel is a priced really reasonably and has beautiful interiors and a stunning rooftop area with a pool, restaurant and bar that boasts gorgeous sunrise and sunset views.
Our room at the hotel was a reasonable size, quite spacious actually and faced the main road. I loved the heritage decor of this hotel and how it translated into each room. The window seat in our room were especially cute - I’m not sure if all the rooms have them but we were lucky to get one! The bathroom was super spacious as well, the only thing I could remember noting about our stay was that we had trouble getting hot water though I wasn’t sure if this was an isolated issue or not. Our room rate included daily vegetarian breakfast that was served in one of the restaurants on the rooftop. It’s served buffet style and includes a rotating menu of local dishes, an egg station, drinks, fruit and breads. It’s small but more than enough.
The location of Udai Kothi was wonderful. It was on the other side of the lake in terms of where most of the sightseeing attractions were however a short stroll across Daiji Bridge gets you there in about 15 minutes on foot. There are plenty of tuk tuks waiting out front of the hotel every day though too so if you don’t want to walk, you can get a tuk tuk to anywhere in the old city for 100 INR ($2 AUD).
TRAVEL TIP: If you’re booking a hotel in Udaipur that’s within the boundaries of the old city, then do note that the old city is a largely pedestrian-only vehicle-free zone. So if you’re coming in from the airport by car, your car will have to stop and drop you at one of the gates entering old city. At each gate I’m certain there will be plenty of tuk tuks waiting around offering you a lift and the standard tourist rate seems to be 100 INR ($2 AUD) per trip. So do keep these logistics in mind!
