Gate Hotel Kaminarimon by HULIC, Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan - Review
Love the traditional, old Tokyo feel of Asakusa? Why not stay right in the midst of it all at Gate Hotel Kaminarimon!
On our recent stay in Japan, we were grateful to be hosted by Gate Hotel Kaminarimon by HULIC, on the last few days of our trip. The hotel is literally across the road from Kaminarimon Gate, the start of the Nakimise-dori shopping street that leads you to Senso-ji temple. In fact, we could see Kaminarimon Gate clearly from our hotel room window, which ended up being a great way to judge the crowds and time our visit haha!
Gate Hotel Kaminarimon is located in the heart of Asakusa, one of the most popular tourist areas in Tokyo. Each guest room is designed with a contemporary touch and modern facilities.
We stayed in the Classy king room, which was super spacious and had plenty of space to have our suitcases open, as well as laptop/workspace as well. There was a large sofa area, dining/bar area as well as vanity table, so lots of room to spread out! The shower & bathtub also had a beautiful view of the city as well.
When it comes to hotels, our preferences are usually 1) spacious rooms 2) accessibility to train stations & attractions 3) nice lobby / public spaces & views and I find that Gate Hotel Kaminiarimon ticks all the boxes for us.
Aside from being near the Senso-ji area, it’s also 2 minutes from Asakusa train station, which has the Ginza and Asakusa line making it really easy to get to many different places. In particular, we loved that the Asakusa line is also an express train to Haneda airport! When we departed, we took the Asakusa line direct to the airport which was super convenient for us. Do note however that you do have to take your luggage down stairs to access Asakusa line here, so be prepared!
The lobby area has expansive windows and lots of seating area which was perfect for working in while enjoying the view. However, even better than the lobby is the rooftop terrace. If the weather permits, I highly recommend heading up at both sunrise and sunset to check out the view. The main terrace area faces sunrise and Tokyo Skytree and is definitely worth the early morning wake up at least once. Sunset tends to be more busy and is a smaller viewing platform, but on a clear day you can see Mt Fuji! The rooftop terrace also has plenty of seating & tables so I loved journaling up here in the mornings, and can imagine it’d be the perfect co-working space as well for some laptop work. There’s also a bar up here as well, for those who enjoy a drink!
If you opt for breakfast with your stay, you’ll find that you start the day with a gorgeous view! Tokyo Skytree and Asakusa shines through the floor to ceiling windows and it’s just a beautiful view. Breakfast here is a choice of main, accompanied by a small buffet spread of salads, bread, fruit and freshly squeezed juice.
We loved our stay here and would definitely recommend a stay at Gate Hotel Kaminarimon by Hulic.
